The OCBA is pleased to share that member Mark Powell joins Dorsey & Whitney LLP as a partner of the firm's Tax, Trusts & Estates Group in Southern California. Powell joins Dorsey from Powell Roberts, Inc., an Orange County-based trusts & estates law firm he founded in 2016.

For over 20 years, Powell’s law practice has focused exclusively on trusts and estates work with emphasis on charitable planning, estate planning, trust and probate administration and estate and gift taxation. He also serves as a fiduciary focused on trust and probate administration, quality of life management, financial elder abuse prevention and management of closely held business interests. The California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization has certified him as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law since 2009. He has also been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Powell has an A.B.J. degree from the University of Georgia and a J.D. degree from the Mercer University School of Law.  Mr. Powell clerked for the Georgia Supreme Court after law school. He has taught as an adjunct professor in the Chapman University School of Law LL.M. Program in Taxation and serves on the Advisory Board of the Cortese Elder Law Center at Chapman University School of Law.
