The OCBA is pleased to announce that OCBA member Mary-Christine “M.C.” Sungaila, Haynes and Boone, LLP, was appointed Commissioner of the ABA Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity (Diversity Center) by the ABA President. The Diversity Center is one of the core entities charged with advancing ABA’s goal to eliminate bias and enhance diversity in the Association, legal profession, and justice system. The Diversity Center oversees four principal entities that each provides a distinct focus to addressing racial and ethnic diversity in the legal profession: Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, Coalition on Racial and Ethnic Justice, Council for Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Educational Pipeline, and Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights & Responsibilities.
Known for her expertise as an appellate lawyer, Sungaila is a partner at the Orange County office of Haynes and Boone. She has also served as a committee leader at the American Bar Association and as a past chair of the OCBA Appellate Law Section. Sungaila is an adjunct professor at Whittier Law School and formerly a lecturer at UC Irvine School of Law. She received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law and her B.A. at Stanford University.
