OCBA members and Western State College of Law students Alfonso Maldonado and Cristel Martinez were among this year's Orange County Hispanic Bar Association's Wally Davis Scholarship recipients.
Maldonado and Martinez have both demonstrated passion for serving immigrant communities the start of their legal careers. They are currently participating as Certified Law Students in Western State's Immigration Clinic, where they are directly representing survivors of domestic violence and other crime in applications for immigration relief before the federal government.
Both are recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), an executive program that grants certain immigrants the ability to receive work authorization and safety from deportation.
