Greetings from OCKABA: Happy New Year!

Hello OCKABA members, my name is Sean Kim and I am honored to be the President of this great organization for 2022-2023 term. I hope you all had wonderful, restful time with your friends and family this holiday season and I look forward to meeting you all at our events in 2023. I cannot believe a new year is already upon us and I wish you all the best for this year!

Next OCKABA Monthly Board Meeting

Our next board meeting will be tomorrow, January 10, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at Brown & Streza, 40 Pacifica, 15th Floor, Irvine, CA 92618. All OCKABA members are welcome to join us for our monthly board meeting. Light dinner will be provided, but please  register and indicate your dietary preference so that we can get an accurate head count and be aware of any dietary restrictions.

ACC (Association of Corporate Counsel) SoCal's Diversity Internship 

ACC SoCal is accepting applications for its Diversity Internship for the summer of 2023. The Program is designed for law students who are (i) Full-time first year or part-time second year law students enrolled in an ABA accredited law school in Los Angeles or Orange County; (ii) In good academic standing; and (iii) Diverse and from underrepresented classes/groups. 

Each law student who is selected to participate in the program will be placed with a host company for 8-10 weeks and be paid a set amount of stipend (e.g., $7500 - $10,000). This is a great opportunity to get an internship from great companies such as Wells Fargo, Taco Bell, Edwards Lifesciences, SoCal Gas, Confie, and etc. Please note that the deadline for submitting an application is January 13, 2023.

CLE Event: Creating a Prison to University Pipeline

This presentation will provide an overview of LIFTED (Leveraging Inspiring Futures Through Education), a new UCI initiative to offer a BA to incarcerated students as well as address a few of the key legal policy issues facing incarcerated students.

Panelists will include: UCI Criminology & Law Professor and Director of LIFTED Keramet Reiter; UCI Clinical Professor of Law and Criminal Justice Clinic Director Katie Tinto; and Hector Cervantes (UCI BA '18, MA '20), a formerly incarcerated alum and current director of Irvine Underground Scholars, which supports formerly incarcerated students on UC campuses.

The free event will be held at UCI Law School in the evening on Tuesday, Feb. 7.This is an MCLE event for "Elimination of Bias" credit. A reception with food and drinks will be held after the panel presentation.

OCBA Judges' Night
