The purpose of the OCBA Legislative Resolutions Committee is to send a delegation to the Annual Conference of Delegates of California Bar Associations.
The OCBA Legislative Resolutions Committee holds 3 caucuses (Winter, Spring, Summer) each year prior to the State Bar Annual Meeting to discuss proposed resolutions that will be submitted to Conference of Delegates of California Bar Associations (CCBA). The Committee drafts resolutions and also reviews resolutions proposed by other bar associations and legal entities.
The Committee is organized into study groups, each focusing on a different area of law. Committee members are encouraged to serve as delegates and travel to the Conference of Delegates which is held during the same weekend and at the same location as the State Bar Annual meeting.
The mission of the Conference of Delegates of California Bar Associations is to serve justice in California by bringing together attorney volunteers from across the State representing diverse backgrounds, experience, and expertise to seek, debate, and promote creative, non-partisan solutions to law-related issues.
Successful approved resolutions may be used by the Conference to lobby for changes to California law. The CCBA lobbyist attempts to either locate a legislator to author and sponsor the legislation or work closely with proponent organizations to assist them in locating a legislator to author and sponsor legislation. Many resolutions proposed and sponsored by the OCBA Legislative Resolutions Committee have facilitated change in the law and increased awareness of important legal issues that impact our community.
The Legislative Resolutions Committee's goal is to send a strong delegation to the Conference of Delegates. Interested members have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of legislation and meet fellow delegates from across the State of California.
All OCBA members are encouraged to apply to this dynamic and important committee. Gain statewide exposure and help OCBA to send a strong delegation to the Conference of Delegates of California Bar Associations.
